Phoebe Ann Baker Ayles  [nee Richards] (29 January 1825  – 7 April 1900)

Phoebe was born in Brockenhurst in Hampshire.  She was the daughter of Charles and Phoebe Richards, and was baptised at the Wesleyan Chapel at Weymouth on 1st October 1829.  She grew up in Dorset, and married Peter Weston Ayles on 10th January 1854 in Wyke Regis, Dorset.  Peter was a commercial traveller and ship builder.

They had three children together: Phoebe Annie Baker [1855-1858], Florence Mary and the Rev Herbert Henry Baker [1861-1940].  Peter Ayles died on 18th April 1870 leaving effects of under £100.

Phoebe moved with Florence and Herbert to 5 East Street, Melcombe Regis [1871] where her occupation is listed as house and land owner.  By 1881 they were living in Harwell, Berkshire, and Herbert by this time was an undergraduate at London University.  Herbert became vicar of Horningsea, Cambridge and both Phoebe and Florence Ayles were living at the Vicarage with Herbert in 1901.

Phoebe died at the Vicarage in Horningsea in April 1900 aged 75 years old leaving effects valued at £210.

Florence Mary Ayles (22 October 1858 – 14th February 1947)

Florence was born in Weymouth, Dorset. She lived with her mother and brother at the Vicarage in Horningsea and continued to live there after her mothers death in 1900.  Herbert married Esther Mary Briscoe in 1903 and it is probable that she moved to Cambridge around this time.

She lived at 34 Warkworth Street for nearly 50 years.  Dying there on 14th February 1947 aged 88 years old.  Her occupation on census returns states that she is living on her own means. She left an estate valued at £1,819 18s and 6d.

Reverend Herbert Henry Baker Ayes died in June 1940 at West Suffolk Hospital.  He had eventually became the Rector of Barrow, Suffolk and Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of St Edmundsbury. He and Esther had four daughters.
