Relationship: siblings

Mary Ann Brooks (6 September 1812 – 20 November 1884)

Mary was the daughter of George and Elizabeth (née Newman) and was born in Exning, near Newmarket. She was baptised in Exning on 9 September 1812. Mary worked as a seamstress/dressmaker and lived at 23 Prospect Row (at least 1861 onwards). By 1871 her occupation was noted as ‘income from houses’. She died at Prospect Row and her funeral was held on 24 November.

Hannah Fletcher (née Brooks) (c.1815 – 3 March 1858)

Hannah was born in Exning and married William Fletcher (1818-) at St. Andrew’s Church on 18 August 1844. William was a police constable and the couple had at least three sons: James (1844-), George (1848-) and Thomas Richard (1850-1879).  William was posted to Mepal in 1851 and the family lived there for at least two years. Hannah died at Prospect Row on 3 March aged 43 years  and her funeral was held on 9 March.  Both the date and age recorded on the grave monument is incorrect, maybe with the passage of time the actual information was forgotten.

George Brooks (1821 – 14 July 1862)

George was baptised in Exning on 17 June 1821. In 1841 he was living in Exning with his widowed mother and working as a labourer. He moved to Cambridge to lodge with the Holden family at 5 Portland Place, and worked as a warehouseman  for Messrs’ Millers, Market Hill (1851). In  1861 he was living with his sister Mary at Prospect Row and was still working as a warehouseman. George died at Eden Street and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 18 July.
