This headstone, in the parish area of St Andrew the Less, is located on the east wall, about 12 metres south of the Gwydir Street gate. The carved inscription for Emma is still clear but the epitaphs and John’s inscription are quite badly eroded. The base of the stone has begun to crumble

‘In Loving Memory of EMMA the beloved wife of JOHN BROWN died May 10. 1901. aged 67 years.’
“Come to the saviour make no delay
Here in his word he has shown us the way
Here in our midst He’s standing today.
Tenderly saying “come”.”
Also of JOHN BROWN died March 10th 1903 aged 69 years

Emma Brown (née Bowman) (1833 – 10 May 1901)
Emma was the daughter of George and Mahala (née Mansfield) Bowman . Her father was a labourer at the gas works and she married John Brown, who worked as the same on 21st March 1851 at Christ Church. They lived at 92 Newmarket Road (1861), 17 River Lane (1871), 1 Walnut Tree Lane (1881) and 7 Beche Road (at least 1891 onwards). The couple had at least nine children: Emily (1853-), Louisa (1854-), Eliza (1857-), Alfred (1858-), Joseph (1857-), William (1863-), Ellen (1864-), Walter (1870-) and Kate (1871). By 1891 John Brown was a foreman at the gas works. Emma died at home and her funeral was held five days later.

John was born in Fen Ditton, to the North of Cambridge and died at 5 York Terrace, Riverside.
