This cross, in the parish of St Andrew the Less, is about 7 rows east of the central path roughly in line with the boundary stone that marks the start of the parish. It is difficult to read the inscription some of which is now below ground level.

Rev. James Thomas Browne (c.1803 – 3 February 1872)

James was born in Mallow, Cork in Ireland and was the son of Henry Charles Browne.  He married Sarah Elizabeth Greenstreet (1815-1898) at St. Giles Church, Northampton on 2 August 1842.  The couple had at least nine children: James William (1843-), Robert Warner (1844-1925), St. John James Galvey (1846-1930), Sarah Isabella (1849-1934), Emily Henrietta (1851-1941), Ernest Augustus (1853-1931), Gertrude Eliza (1854-1928), Edith Matilda (1855-1935) and Arthur Septimus (1859-1940).

James was the curate of St. Edmund’s Church, Northampton (1851/1861) and then the Vicar of Isleham. In 1871 the family were living at the Vicarage in Isleham together with Sarah’s brother John, a cook and a domestic housemaid. He died at an address in Maid’s Causeway,  Cambridge aged 68 years old.
