Arthur Charles Smith (1854 – 10 April 1925)
Arthur was born in Blakenham, near Ipswich and was the son of Henry. He is believed to have married Ellen on 31 July 1880 in Essex and they had five children: Arthur George (1881-), William Frank (1882-1925), John Henry (1886-), Margaret Alice (1893-1983) and one more child who died as an infant. Arthur worked as a railway inspector and in 1891/1901 the family were living at 4 Church Street, Hyde in Cheshire. By 1911 Arthur, Ellen and daughter Margaret had moved to live at 63 Argyle Street where he died aged 71 years old.
Ellen Smith (11 February 1861 – 19 April 1946)
Ellen was born in Akenham, just on the northern edge of Ipswich. Little is known of her early life, but her maiden name was possibly Cepping (this might have been misspelt on the marriage records). After she was widowed she continued to live at 63 Argyle Street (1939) and died aged 85 years old at 7 Devonshire Road, which was the home of her daughter Margaret.
Margaret Alice Bumstead (née Smith) (3 March 1893 – 5 March 1983)
Margaret was born in Hyde and baptised there on 12 April 1893. In 1911 she was working as a book folder in a book binding company. She married Reginald Peter Bumstead (1903-1972) in 1930 and they lived at 7 Devonshire Road. Reginald was a laboratory assistant in an entomological field station (1939) but the couple appear to have divorced, as he married for a second time in 1951 to Esme Amy Evelyn Humphreys (1911-1998). Margaret continued to live at 7 Devonshire Road and died two days after her 90th birthday.
