The headstone in December 2025.

This headstone is hidden behind holly bushes abut 8 rows west of the central path in the parish of Andrew The Less. It is a few plots north of the border with the parish of All Saints. The carved Inscription is still mostly legible.

Sacred to the Memory of ELIZABETH wife of JOHN CASEY died May 12 1864 aged 67 years

Elizabeth Casey (nee Gum) (c.1797 – 12 May 1864)

Elizabeth was born in Cambridge and married John Casey on 9 November 1815. John was a labourer and they are thought to have had at least seven children: William (1821-), Robert (1823-1893), Henry (1827-1901), Thomas (1831-), George (1833-), Eliza (1834-) and James (1837-1906). From at least 1851 onwards the family at 13 River Lane, where Eliza died aged 67 years old. Her funeral was held on 17 May.

John Casey (1792 – 21 February 1875)

John was born in Cambridge and worked as a labourer and later as a brickmaker. He worked at Messrs. Beart’s Brick Making works on Newmarket Road from at least 1855. After he was widowed John lived at River Lane with a housekeeper –  Susan Bilton (1871). He died at Newmarket Road aged 82 years  and was buried on 26 February.
