George Chapman (c.1831 – 31 August 1864)

George was born in Cambridge, the son of Sarah (1801-). Aged 19 he was living with his mother and sister Eliza at Newmarket Road, and working as a blacksmith. His mother was a beer seller, and sister was a lace maker.  George married Catherine on 12 September 1853 at Christ Church, Cambridge. He was a blacksmith when they married, but the couple subsequently moved to Enfield, where he was an engineer at the local Water Works, where they also lived.  They had at least three children: Cecilia (1857-1939), Sarah (1859-1940) and George James (1861-1945). It is thought he died in Enfield, and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 7 September.

Catherine Chapman (née Hunt/Huntlea) (1830 – 21 June 1884)

Catherine was the daughter of Abraham Hunt and Catherine (née Lea) and her surname was sometimes documented as Hunt, and at other times as Huntlea. She was born in Hemel Hempstead, and baptised in Kings Langley on 19 December 1830. Abraham was a musician and in 1841 the family was living at 34 Coronation Street, Cambridge. Abraham died in 1846 and in 1851 Catherine was living with her mother and brothers on the Common at Saffron Walden where they were documented as ‘booth keepers’. After she was widowed Catherine lived with her mother at the William and Mary pub,   27 Maids Causeway, where she was documented as being a housekeeper (1871), before return to live at the Court Houses, Enfield  (1881). She died in Enfield and was buried with her husband on 28 June 1884.

Catherine’s parents were also buried at Mill Road Cemetery, in the St. Andrew the Less area, but their grave has not yet been identified.  Abraham died at Newmarket Road aged 48 years old and was buried on 1 August 1846. Catherine Huntlea (née Lea) (1799-1883) died at Crispin Street, Cambridge and was also buried at Mill Road Cemetery.

Sarah Chapman (c.1825 – 8 May 1899)

Nothing is known of Sarah, and her name does not appear in the burial register for 1899.
