In Loving Memory of
DAVID DAY
who died August 5. 1881.
Aged 55 years
David Day (1826 – 5 August 1881)
David was born in Shepreth, the son of Joseph and Louisa Day. His father was a blacksmith and David worked as the same. In 1851 he was living with his parents in Melbourn. He married twice widowed Susan Coy (née King) (1808-1890) in Melbourn on 6 November 1853. They moved to live at 30 South Street (1861) and lived with Susan’s son Thomas Coy (1848-). By 1871 they had moved to 61 East Road, and he was documented as a master blacksmith. In 1881 David and Susan were living at 50 Burleigh Street with Susan’s son William Stockbridge, four nephew/nieces and servant Caroline Taylor. David died at Norfolk Street, and parish burial records document he was buried on 2 August 1881, which is at odds with the date on the grave monument.
