EMILY NORTON DUNN Feb 15 1877 aged 19 FRANCIS JOHN DUNN Nov 28 1872 aged 11

Relationship: Siblings

Emily Norton Dunn (1857 – 15 February 1877)

Emily was the second daughter of John (1824-1895) and Mary Elizabeth (née Bowen) (1834-1904). Her father was a University Tutor and also owned coal mines.  Emily was born in Cambridge and grew up at 3 Pembroke Street. She went to boarding school in Hunstanton and died at Little Shelford aged 19 years old.

Francis John Dunn (1861 – 28 November 1872)

Francis was born in Whitby and died aged 11 years old.

John and Mary Dunn lived at  3 Pembroke Street (1861), Gwydir House, Mill Road (1871) before moving to Kirby Lodge, High Street, Little Shelford. They had a total of six children – four girls and two boys. Their other son Arthur Tempest Blakiston Dunn (1860-1902) also died relatively young. Arthur attended Eton and then went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a noted sportsman and played football for England as well as cricket for Norfolk. His early death was reported as amateur sport having lost ‘one of its brightest ornaments’. Arthur Dunn was headmaster of a Prep School in Ludgrove when he died and was buried in Little Shelford. A school alumni football competition was held in his honour – the Arthur Dunn cup.  In 1952 the final was between Eton and Shewsbury and the cup was presented to the winners (Shrewsbury) by Arthur’s daughter the Hon. Olive Shirley (née Dunn).

John and Mary Dunn both died in Little Shelford and are buried at All Saints’ Church in the village.
