Monument

This headstone located in the parish of St Paul has now fallen and become covered by grass. The photo was sent in by a descendent of Charles Allen whose grave is on the right  of the picture. It stood roughly 13 rows east of the central path.

Inscription

In Loving Memory of WILLIAM JAMES FORDHAM died Feby 14th 1907 aged 43 years

William James Fordham (1863 – 14 February 1907)

William was born in Cambridge and was the son of labourer John Fordham. In 1881 he was living with his widowed father at 76 Fitzroy Street and working as a grocer’s horsekeeper. In 1891 he was still at Fitzroy Street and was a furnishing shop assistant. William married Lilian Hoskison (1874-) in 1894 and they had one child who died as an infant. They lived at 10a Union Road, where William ran a toy, drapers and confectionery shop. He died at home aged 43, and his funeral was held on 19 February.

His widow Lilian was still running the shop at Union Lane in 1911.
