SARAH FURNESS d Aug [21] —- aged 49

Annie Jane Furness (née Gordon) (17 May 1838 – 17 October 1921)

Annie was born in Gibralter and  married James Furness. In 1861 the couple were stationed at the Gorleston Barracks in Suffolk, and James was a corporal in the Royal Artillery, Coastal Brigade. They had at least seven children: Annie Margaret (1860-1934), James Gordon (1862-), Edith Charlotte (1864-1954), Clara Louisa Douglass (1866-1949), Louisa Florence (1868-1898), Ellen Ada (1872-1944) and Percy Edwad William (1875-1933). The family later moved to live at 32 Pulford Street in London and he was documented as being a sergeant in the Royal Artillery (1871). He retired from the army  on 4 April 1871 and was made a Chelsea Pensioner.  James worked as a messenger in a colonial office in retirement and died in November 1902 aged 73 years old. Annie moved to live at 2 Warkworth Terrace (1908- at least 1913) and then 12 Victoria Avenue (at least 1918 onwards). Annie died at Chesterton Hospital and her funeral was held on 21 October 1921.
