They had four children together: Ethel Louisa (1891-1990), Lily (1893-1959), Ivy Victoria (1901-1901) and Alfred Charles (1901-1962).  In 1891 the family were living on York Street, and Alfred was working as a porter and bacon roller.  In 1901 they were at 78 Kingston Street and he was a grocer’s assistant. By 1911 the family were still living at 78 Kingston Street, but by that time Alfred had become a ‘grocer and provisions dealer’.

By 1939 he had retired and Alfred and Esther were living at 254 Mill Road.  He died there in 1947 aged 81 years old.
