Inscription

Susan Gunn (c.1837 – 9 March 1886)

Susan was the daughter of labourer Thomas Gunn (1810-1866) and Mary Ann (née Brown) (1809-1904). Aged 15 she was living in Horningsea, just outside Cambridge and working as a servant for Thomas Fletcher and his 43 year old daughter, Margaret. After her father’s death Margaret moved to Rydal Road, Lancaster and Susan moved with her, living there from at least 1861-1871. Margaret was an annuitant, and Susan was her companion. Susan died at 175 Newmarket Road (possibly the home of her mother) aged 49 years old and her funeral was held on 13 March.

Susan’s parents were also buried in the St. Andrew the Less area of Mill Road Cemetery, but their grave has not yet been identified.
