Thomas trained as a boiler maker and in 1851 was lodging in Liverpool. He moved to Cambridge and married Mary Whitworth on 13 March 1858 at St. Paul’s Church. The couple had six daughters: Amelia (1860-1930), Sophia (1861-1931), Emma Jane (1864-1935), Eliza (1865-1930), Esther(1869-1949) and Sabina (1871-1947). Thomas worked for Great Eastern Railway as a boiler maker and worked at the coppersmith’s shop at the railway station. In 1864 Thomas charged three of his fellow workers with assaulting him –  John Reeve and his sons Robert and William also worked at the station, but Thomas withdrew the allegation before it reached court. He died at Gwydir Street and his funeral was held on 20 September.

Mary Gwynne (née Whitworth)  (1837 – 8 July 1912)
