Catharine Headley (née Mathews) ( 27 December 1795 – 2 December 1886)
Catharine was born in Hunstanton and baptised there on 3 January 1796. She was the daughter of Robert and Ellen (née Norman) Mathews, and married surgeon John Headley (1787-1867) on 9 October 1816 in Gayton Thorpe, near King’s Lynn. John was originally from Cambridge and is believed to have been the brother of Robert Headly. Catherine’s surname was mostly spelt Headly, but sometimes as Headley. The spelling of Headley was used on the grave monument.
John and Catharine had at least eight children, all of whom were born in Gayton: John Daville (1818-1906), Charlotte Flower (1822-1907), William (1823-1851), Edwin (1826-1901), Ellen (1829-1966), Frederick (1831-1877), Walter (1834-) and Maria (1837-1884). John died in May 1867 aged 80 years old and was buried in Gayton. Catharine then moved to live at 28 Panton Street with her youngest daughter Maria (1871/1881). She died at Mill Lane aged 90 years old. As several of her children had moved to Cambridge by this point it was possibly the home of one of them.
Maria Headley (1837 – 10 February 1884)
Maria was baptised in Gayton on 17 February 1837 and in 1871 was documented as being her mother’s companion. She died at Panton Street aged 47 years old.
