April 7th 1857 aged 73 years
Robert Headly (1784 – 1857)
Robert was born in Cambridge, the youngest son of William and Mary Headly. He married Sarah Ind in Baldock Hertfordshire in 1809. Robert was an ironmonger and started the Eagle Foundry on Market Hill. They had at least eight children. William (1809), Sarah Ind (1811), James Ind (1813), Mary Kirkby (1815), Edward Ind ( 1817) Emma (1819-1820) Emma Louisa (1821-1824) and Susan (1823). Mary died in 1837 at the age of 51 and would have been buried in the churchyard of St Mary the Great. The business did well but after a fire it was moved further away from the town centre. His sons James & Edward took over the business which was located next to the railway line on Mill Road.
Robert was living in New Square when he died.
In the 1851 census Robert Headly was living in New Square with his daughter Sarah Brooker, a widow and her three children. The eldest grandchild was James Ind Brooker named after his uncle who is also buried in this cemetery.
