William Edward Johnson (1872 – 3 December 1924)
William was the son of Thomas (1818-1895) and Esther (née Bangs) (1839-1913) and was born in Little Munden, Hertfordshire, where his father farmed 340 acres and employed 10 workers on his farm (1881). He was baptised in Little Munden on 28 July 1872. In 1901 William was lodging in Brixton and working as a bookseller’s assistant. He died of T.B. at Papworth Hospital and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 6 December.
Clara Johnson (2 October 1867 – 17 March 1941)
Clara was William’s elder sister and was born in Standon, Hertfordshire. Aged 13 she was at a boarding school in Great Hadham and in 1901 was living with her widowed mother and brothers Henry and Benjamin in Braughing. She was documented as being the family housekeeper on the census of that year. From at least 1932 onwards she lived with her sister Mary Elizabeth, brother in law William Islip and their family at 158 Tenison Road, Cambridge. She died at Chesterton Infirmary aged 73 years old.
