Thomas Frederick Juffs (1877 – 18 July 1934)
Thomas was the son of Edwin and Annie Juffs. His father worked as a solicitor’s general clerk, and he grew up at 68 Ainsworth Street. In 1891 he was 15 years old and working as an accountant’s clerk. He married Jessie Beard in 1900. In 1901 the couple were living at 5 Mill Road, and Thomas was working as a furniture porter.
Thomas and Jessie had two daughters: Mildred Jessie [1902-1990] and Winifred Annie [1905-1994]. From at least 1911 the couple settled at 9 Mill Street. By that time Thomas was working as a ‘shop assistant in oil colour and brush department’. He died at Addenbrookes Hospital in 1934. Five years later Jessie placed an in memoriam announcement in the Cambridge Daily News: ‘In ever loving memory of a dear husband and father. Thomas Frederick Juffs, who passed away July 18th 1934. From his loving wife and daughters, 9 Mill Street, Cambridge’
Jessie Louisa Juffs [nee Beard] (8 February 1879 – 30 July 1961)
Jessie grew was born in Cambridge and was the daughter of Alfred and Emma Beard. Her father was a labourer, and she grew up at 21 Castle Street [1881] and then at 47 Millow Road [1891]. After being widowed she continued to live at 9 Mill Street, and was still living there with daughter Winifred in 1961. Winifred continued to live at 9 Mill Street after her mother died.
