Monument
This headstone stands on the southern border of the parish of Andrew the Less and was originally recorded by CHFHS as being in the parish of All Saints (AS6). It is roughly 19 meters north of the north path and 1 row west of the central path. It was repaired sometime after it was recorded by CFHS. The carved inscription is still legible but may become hidden my ivy.
Inscription
Sacred to the Memory of HANNAH KEMERLY who died suddenly May 16. 1852. Aged 41 years.
Therefore be ye also ready for such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh.
Hannah Kemerly (1811 – 16 May 1852)
Hannah was born in Kingswood, near Bristol and is thought to have been the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth. In 1851 she was living at 10 Maid’s Causeway where she was parlourmaid to the Sealy family. Widow Mary Ann Sealy, lived at the house with her four children, including eldest son Rev. Sparks Bellet Sealy (1825-), who was curate of St. Andrew the Less Church and youngest son Alfred Forbes Sealy who was a student at Cambridge University. Hannah’s sister Mary was a ladies maid in the same household and the family appear to have brought their domestic staff with them from Bristol, where they had lived for some years. She died suddenly at Maid’s Causeway and an inquest was held on 18 May, where surgeon Mr Hough ‘deposed that death was caused by spasm of the heart. Verdict accordingly’. Hannah was buried on 19 May 1852.
