Labourn headstone January 2020

Monument

The lower part of the monument would once have had a Celtic cross on the top. There are some pieces that might fit in the grave set of the Gentle monument two plots to the north. It is located two rows to the east of the path that leads to the north gate in the far north of the cemetery. The inscription is barely legible.

WILLIAM LABOURN

Mary Ann Labourn (née Talbot)  (1840 – 9 June 1902)

Mary was born in Cambridge and was the daughter of gardener Thomas Talbot. She married William Labourn on 11 February 1866 at All Saints’ Church, Fulham. William was a carpenter when they married and they lived just off the King’s Road in Chelsea (1871) and Brunswick Road, Tower Hamlets (1881). By 1885 William was a tabacconist, and ran the business from Brunswick Road. After she was widowed she ran a tabacconist shop at Stroud Green Road, Finsbury Park (1901). She later moved to 46 Elizabeth Road, East Ham, and died there aged 62 years old. Her body was returned to Cambridge and her funeral took place on 14 June.

William Labourn (1842 – 1895)

William was born in Islington, the son of William and Maria Labourn. His father was a master carpenter, and William worked as the same. It is believed he died in London aged 53 years old and was buried in London, as his name does not appear on the parish burial records.
