Louisa Selina Leader (1855 – 22 March 1926)

Louisa was the youngest daughter of Henry and Ann Leader and was baptised on 7 September 1863 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel.  Her father was a journeyman tailor and she grew up at  20 Broad Street (1861) and  14 Norfolk Street (1871). Louisa worked as a dressmaker and in 1881 was lodging at 93 Gwydir Street with widow Sarah Doggett. In 1891 she was living at 25 James Street with her mother and sister Ellen, and all three women were working as dressmakers/tailoresses. After their mother’s death, Louisa and Ellen lived together at  Priory Road, where they worked as dressmakers and took in lodgers (at least 1901-1914). By 1918 Louisa had moved back to 25 James Street and she was still at that address in 1926 when she died aged 70 years old.

Ellen Maria Leader (1851 – 16 June 1931)

Ellen also worked as a dressmaker and lived with her sister Louisa until at least 1914. By 1918 she had moved to the Almshouses at 125 King Street, and died aged 79 years old.

Matilda (Tillie) Leader (née Brett) (1845 – 8 July 1936)

Tillie was born in Histon and was baptised there on 23 March 1845.  She was the eldest daughter of William and Cecilia Brett and her father worked as a gardener.  The family lived in Stretham (1851) and Histon (1861).  Aged 16 Tillie was working as a servant, and then moved with her family to 20 South Street (1871) where she worked as a dressmaker. She had a daughter: Hilda May (1871-), who was born out of wedlock and married William Henry Leader (1849-1877) at the Wesleyan Chapel, Hobson Street on Christmas Day 1876. Her daughter Hilda then took the surname of Leader. Tillie was widowed less than 7 months after the wedding and then lived with Hilda at 30 Bridge Street where she ran a Lodging House (1891) and then was a ‘mantle and dressmaker’ at the same address (1901). The pair then moved to 11 Carlyle Road where Tillie once again ran a Lodging House (1911). She was  living at the King Street almshouses by at least 1920, and her daughter Hilda had moved to live with her by at least 1930. She died aged 81 years old.

Henry Leader (1820 – 15 March 1884)

Henry was the son of William and Ruth and was baptised on 18 May 1820 in Barnwell. He married Ann in 1844 and they had at least five children: Emily Ann (1845-1909), Ann Hardy (1846-1926), William Henry (1849-1877), Ellen Maria and Louisa Selina. The family lived at Broad Street, Norfolk Street,  7 Gwydir Street (1881) and 25 James Street. Henry died at home and his funeral was held on 19 March.

Ann Leader  (née Curson) (d 1895)

Ann was the daughter of William (-1829) and Elizabeth (née Hobson) (1789-1868) and before marrying lived with her mother and siblings at Park Street. She died at James Street and  was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 3 April 1895.

William Henry Leader (1849 – 12 July 1877)

William was the only son of Henry and Ann Leader, husband of Matilda and also worked as a tailor. He died at Perowne Street and his funeral was held on 14 July.
