John Maile (1825 – 21 February 1887)

John was born the village of Horningsea, three miles north east of Cambridge and was the son of Christopher and Susan Maile. He was baptised on 24 November 1825 and trained as a shoe/bootmaker. He married Emma Maile on 6 August 1849 at Christ Church, Cambridge and they had at least three children: Agnes (1850-1918), John Frederick (1852-1921) and Alfred (1855-1935). The family lived at 8 Staffordshire Place (1851), 36 Burleigh Street (1861) and by 1871 he was managing a shoemaking shop on Market Hill in Royston. He and Emma were still in Royston in 1881, and he died at Sturton Street aged 61 years.  His funeral was held on 25 February.

Emma Charlotte Maile (née Maile) (1830 – 14 August  1898)

Emma was the daughter of John and Maria and was born and raised in St. Ives. Her father was a bricklayer and she married John Maile when she was 19 years old. After his death she lodged at Holland Street (1891) and died at  83 Searle Street.
