Edith Sarah Marshall (1875 – November 1924)

There is some discrepancy about Edith’s date of death. Probate documents record she died on 24 November 1924.

She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of Henry and Laura (née Chamberlain) Marshall. Henry worked as a brewer and the family lived at 3 Proctor’s Buildings, Norfolk Street (1881) and 104 Norfolk Street (at least 1891 onwards). In 1901 Edith was working as a housemaid in London, and died at the family home in Norfolk Street aged 49 years old.

Edith’s aunt Mary Ann Marshall is also buried in an identical monument on the other side of the parish.

Mary Proctor

There is not enough information remaining on the grave monument in order to conclusively identify Mary Proctor.  However  a Mary Proctor is recorded in the burial book as having died at Stetchworth Hall and was buried in this parish on March 27th 1883 Henry Marshall’s step father was  Joseph Proctor, and he is also buried at Mill Road Cemetery. It is therefore likely that there was a  connection through that side of the family.
