Joanna Mead (née Hall) (1794 – 20 October 1859)
Joanna was the daughter of Beihard and Mary (née Holly) Hall and was born in Barnardiston, near Haverhill. She was baptised in the village on 20 April 1794 and married grocer William Mead in Cambridge on 1 October 1840. The couple lived at 28 Willow Place (1841), 147 East Road (1851), Gold Street and Histon Road. Joanna died at Histon Road and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 25 October.
Mary Mead (née Bonnett) (c.1815 – 10 March 1882)
Mary was the daughter of John Bonnett, and was born in Little Waltham, just north of Chelmsford in Essex. She married widower William Mead on 19 September 1860 at St. Andrew’s Church, Hornchurch. In 1861 and 1871 the couple were living on Histon Road, where William had a grocer’s shop, but they retired to live at 1 Garden Cottages, Willow Place. Mary died at home aged 67 years old. The parish burial records show she was buried on 24 March, which is at odds with the date of death on the grave monument.
William Mead (c.1808 – 4 November 1888)
William was the son of William Mead and was a grocer in the town. In April 1851 the Cambridge Independent Press reported that ‘a quantity of soap’ was stolen from his shop on East Road. He died at Garden Cottages aged 82 years old.
