Monument
This set of kerbstones, located in the parish of All Saints, lie 6 rows west of the central path and roughly 7 plots north of the north path. It is of an unusual style as the kerbs are flat with the clear inscriptions carved on blocks inserted in the centre of each kerb. Due to the deep vegetation in this area we were only able to partially uncovered 2 kerbs.

Louise Hephzibah Mitchell (née Miller) (4 February 1874 – 18 March 1945)

Louise was the daughter of William and Mary Miller and grew up at Norfolk Buildings/106 Norfolk Street. Her father, a brewer’s labourer died in 1881, and she grew up with her five siblings and mother Mary who was a college bedmaker.
Louise married Walter Alfred Mitchell (1878 – 1961) in 1905 and the couple had four children: Edith (who died as an infant) Ernest William (1907-1991), Frank Alfred (1908-1979) and Sidney John Daniel (1910-1990). According to the family Walter had originally proposed to Louise’s sister Alice, but she had turned him down so he married her younger sister instead.

Walter was a university laboratory assistant and later became secretary of the University Pathology Department. The family lived at 25 Mackenzie Road, and by 1939 Louise was incapacitated. She died at Mackenzie Road aged 71 years old.
Frederick William Miller (26 August 1868 – 29 May 1944)
Frederick was the eldest child of William and Mary and worked as a printer/compositor although he was later documented as being a printers reader. He lived at home with his mother and sister Alice and did not marry. In 1939 he was living with Alice at 106 Norfolk Street and after she died in 1940 went to live with his other sister Louise at 25 Mackenzie Road. He died at the Mill Road Infirmary aged 75 years old.
Alice Mary Miller (25 January 1872 – 5 April 1940)

Alice was the eldest daughter of William and Mary. In 1901 she was working as a parlour maid in Royston for doctor Herbert Archer, but by 1911 had returned to Norfolk Street to live with her mother and brother Frederick. According to her nephew Sidney she was a bit of a character who refused to conform to the correct behaviours of the time. She smoked a pipe in the privacy of her own home and was partial to drinking Guinness. Walter Mitchell called her ‘Al’ and was apparently a little afraid of her as she did not suffer fools gladly. Alice died aged 68 years old.
