James Moon (10 November 1855 – 22 August 1922)
James was born in Macclesfield, Cheshire and was the son of Charles (1827-1911) and Ellen (née Owen) (1830-1866) Moon. His father was a joiner/pipemaker and in 1871 James was living in Bradford with his father, step mother Margaret and two siblings. He also trained as a joiner and married Rebecca Houghton on 18 July 1878 at St. Saviour’s Church, Brownhill, near Batley, Leeds. They went to live in Cambridge, near to Rebecca’s home village of Toft and had eight children: Percival James, Mabel Elizabeth (1881-), Florence (1889-1974), Alec Owen (1891-1952), Alice Ellen (1892-), Daisy Ellen (1894-), Harold Houghton (1899-1967) and one further child who died as an infant. The family lived at 148 Sturton Street (1881), 69 Cavendish Road (1901), 82 Hemingford Road (1911) and 12 Romsey Road (at least 1918 onwards). James died at home in the summer of 1922.

Rebecca was born in Toft, a village six miles west of Cambridge and was baptised there on 11 May 1855. She was the daughter of William and Mary and grew up in Toft, where her father was a shepherd. In 1871 she was living at Rose Crescent and working as a nurse for Edward and Anne Marsh before marrying James Moon when she was 23 years old. She remained living at 12 Romsey Road until at least 1925, and is believed to have been 81 years old when she died (although her grave monument says 80 years).
