Northfield John Pamplin (c.1827 – 13 January 1866)

Northfield was born in Harston, to the south of Cambridge and was baptised there on 17 June 1827. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah (née Northfield) Pamplin. He married Susan Livermore (1827-1880) in 1849 and they had at least one daughter: Emily (1854-). The family  lived at the Old Toll Bar, Newmarket Road and he worked as a road labourer (1861). In March 1864 the Cambridge Commisioners put out a tender for: scavengering, watering and repairing the unpaved roads, for which Northfied put in a tender.  The various bids were published and Northfield significantly undercut most of the other contractors. He died at Coldham’s Lane aged 39 years old and his funeral was held on 18 January.

His widow Susan married publican and widower William Patman (1823-1891)  in 1868. They lived in Comberton, where he ran the Plough Inn and Susan died in February 1880, aged 54 years.
