Relationships: Husband, wife and daughter
Alfred Cyprus Pollendine (c.1880 ‒ 12 March 1926)
Alfred was the son of Henry and Jane Pollendine. His father was in the army, and he was born in Cyprus, which explains his unusual middle name. He was the youngest of the four Pollendine children. Susan (1870-) was born in Cork, Ireland, Henry (1872-) and Francis (1876-1943) were born in Bermuda, and Alfred in Cyprus. The year after Alfred’s birth the family returned to Cambridge, which is where Henry Pollendine originated from.
The family lived at 65 York Street (1881), and then Terrace Lane (1891/1901). Henry Pollendine worked initially as a cartman, and then as a hospital porter. Alfred was working on the railways by 1901 aged 21 years old. He married Alice Julia Marsh in Newmarket in 1901 and they moved to 92 Thoday Street.
Alice and Alfred had two children: Alfred William (1902-1958) and Ada Nellie. Alfred continued to work on the railway as a railway carman. He died in 1926 aged 46 years old.
Ada Nellie Pollendine (6 December 1905 ‒ 29 March 1908)
Ada was the daughter of Alfred Cyprus and Alice Julia Pollendine. She died aged 2 years old.
Alice Julia Starr formerly Pollendine (nee Marsh) (21 May 1879 ‒8 July 1949)
Alice was born in Bottisham and was the daughter of Daniel and Susan Marsh. Her father worked as an agricultural labourer. She married Alfred Pollendine when she was 22 years old in 1901, and was widowed in 1926 when she was 46 years old.
She married a second time to Sidney Starr in the late 1920’s. He was an agricultural worker, and initially they lived in Shepreth at an address simply known as ‘near East Anglian Cement works’. Later after Sidney retired they moved to 92 Windsor Road, Cambridge. Alice died in Addenbrookes Hospital aged 70 years old. She left effects valued at £184 17s 8d.
