Inscription

WILLIAM POWELL born July 2 1818 died May 27 1885 aged 67 years

“For ever with the Lord. Amen”

William Powell (2 July 1818 – 27 May 1885)

William was born in Cambridge and married Emma Ingrey (1825-) in 1844. They had at least eleven children: Emma (1845-1895), Elizabeth (1847-), William (1850-), Charles (1851-), Ellen (1854-1872), Arthur (1856-1874), Dnaiel (1858-1907), Andrew (1860-1874), Hannah (1862-), Rebecca (1864-) and Florence (1868-). They lived at 81 East Road, and William worked as a muffin baker (1851), then at 42 Broad Street where he was documented as a hawker/general dealer (at least 1861-1872). The family later moved to live at 13 South Street, where he was a muffin and crumpet baker (1881). William died at home  and his funeral was held on 30 May.

His widow Emma was living  in Marylebone in 1891 with youngest daughter Florence. It is not known when she died, or where she is buried.

Using information from parish burial records it is thought that two of William and Emma’s children are also buried in the same grave as their father.

Ellen Powell (1854 – April 1872)

Ellen died at Broad Street and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 5 April 1872.

Andrew Powell (1860 – October 1874)

Arthur died at South Street and his funeral was held on 5  October 1874.
