Monument

This headstone is located to the south of the south path just where it joins the central path. It stands 2 monuments from the south wall on the edge of a large bush. The inscription is badly eroded.

Archie James Richardson (1 November 1871 – 2 July 1902)

Archie was the son of Joseph and Sarah Richardson and was born in Fen Drayton. He grew up in the village, where his father was an agricultural labourer and joined the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 1 September 1890. In 1891 he was a Private and stationed at the Walmer Barracks, Kent. He married Maude Blanche Delaporte (1870-1945) in 1899 in Somerset and they had one son: James Cecil Raymond (1900-). In 1901 the family were living in Hammersmith and Archie died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 30 years old. His funeral took place on 5 July 1902

Emily Ann Richardson (1865 – 3 September 1905)

Emily was Archie’s sister and was also born in Fen Drayton. After her father died in 1885 and she moved with her mother Sarah to live at 50 Panton Street (1891) and Norwich Street. Emily died at Norwich Street and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 7 September. 

Sarah Richardson (née Wells) (1831 – 21 May 1917)

Sarah was born in Peterborough and was the daughter of agricultural labourer Edward Wells and Mary. In 1851 she was living with Thomas Holt in Leicestershire. The couple had four children together: Thomas (1848-), Jane (1851-), Edward John Wells (1856-) and Albert Wells (1858-1907) but did not marry until 1858.   Thomas Holt was a shoemaker who is believed to have died in Huntingdonshire c.1860. In 1861 Sarah was documented as a widow and was living at Green Street, St Ives  with her four children and working as a seamstress. 

She then married Joseph Richardson (1832-1885) in 1862 and they had a further six children: Lucy (1863-1940), Emily Ann, Joseph (1868-1872), Archie James and another two children who died as infants. Joseph was an agricultural labourer and the family lived at High Street, Fen Drayton. Sarah worked as a monthly nurse, and in 1881 was living with the Hall family in Swavesey nursing a one month old baby. whilst the rest of the family remained living in Fen Drayton. She was widowed for a second time in 1885 and moved to Cambridge and continued to work as a sick nurse. In 1911 she was living at 43 Norwich Street with lodger Alice Kirkup and died at home aged 85 years old.
