John Speechley (1859 – 2 February  1932)

John was born in Wood Walton, a small village six miles north of Huntingdon and was the youngest son of farmer William Speechley and Mary (née Forth).  He worked as a blacksmith, and aged 22 was lodging at 34 Lower Park Street.  He married Eliza in 1881 and they had six children: Kate Annie (1882-1973), Ada Mary (1886-1974), Nellie (1888-1975), Arthur Edward (1890-1955), Harry (1896-1990) and one further child who died as an infant.  The family lived at 102 East Road (1891) and then 53 Abbey Road (at least 1901 onwards).

Eliza Speechley (née Leake) (1856 – 18 January 1933)

Eliza was born in Ancester, Lincolnshire – a small village between Grantham and Sleaford and aged 15 was working as a servant in Grantham.  In April 1881 she was a housemaid at Acacia House, Bottesford near Melton Mowbray and married John later that year. She died in Whittlesey less than a year after his death.
