Walter Frederick Stearn (1852 – 13 April 1928)
Walter was the son of James and Susannah and was baptised on 30 January 1853 at St. Mary the Less Church. He grew up at 9 Church Street and his father worked as a tailor. Walter worked as a shoemaker and married Elizabeth Backler in 1876. They had two daughters: Florence and Fanny who are buried in the same grave. The family lived at Audley Villa, 109 Newmarket Road, where Walter died in April 1928. His funeral took place on 16 April.
Fanny Backler Stearn (4 January 1879 – 11 March 1958)
Fanny lived at Newmarket Road her entire life. She was not documented as having an occupation and died at home aged 79 years old.
Elizabeth Stearn (née Backler) (1853 – 20 January 1908)
Elizabeth was the daughter of gardener George Backler and Elizabeth (née Last) and grew up at 48 Bradmore Street. She worked as a dressmaker prior to marrying Walter Stearn. She died at Audley Villa and her funeral took place on 23 January 1908.
Her sisters Emily, Agnes, Clara and Mary Sophia are buried in the St. Clements area of Mill Road Cemetery. Her parents and elder brother George are buried in the parish of St Andrew the Less with no known monument.
Florence Elizabeth Stearn (10 January 1877 – 1 November 1943)
Florence worked as a schoolmistress and lived at Newmarket Road her whole life. After the death of her parents she lived at Audley Villa with her sister Fanny and in 1939 was documented as being a retired Head teacher. She died at home aged 66 years old.
