Janet Mabel Sarah Ann (Nettie) Storey (1876 – 26 November 1896)

Nettie was the daughter of Charles and Margaret Ann Storey. Charles was a college porter, Margaret a college bedmakerat Trinity College and she grew up at 8 Manor Street (1881) and 7 Willow Place (1891).  Nettie died at home and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 3 December 1896.

Margaret Maud Storey (1880 – 3 July 1897)

Margaret also died at Willow Place and her funeral was held on 9 July.

The girls’ father Charles Storey was also buried in the St Andrew the Less area of Mill Road Cemetery and might have been buried in the same grave as his daughters.

Charles Storey (1856 –  7 May 1895)

Charles was born in Grantchester and baptised there on 11 May 1856. He was the son of brewer/publican John Storey (1820-1863) and Eliza (née Kingston) (1828-1901). His father ran the Hat and Feathers pub on Barton Road, and died when Charles was 7 years old.  Eliza married gardener Gabriel Payne in 1864 and Charles then moved to live at 85 Castle Streeet.  Aged 14 (1871) he was working as a printer’s boy and married Margaret Ann Smith (1851-1935). Margaret had a daughter called Esther Elizabeth Smith (1868-) who Charles adopted and took the surname of Smith-Storey. The couple had eleven children: Edith Lilian (1874-), Nettie, Margaret, Constance Elizabeth (1885-) and Ethel May (1887-) and a further six children who died as infants. Charles was a college porter (1881) and was then documented as a cook (1891).  He died at home aged 39 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 13 May 1895.
