Ellen Maria Tavener [nee Scott] (23 March 1870 – 24 July 1953)

Ellen was born in Cambridge and was the daughter of John Joseph and Jane Scott.  She grew up on Brunswick Street [1871] and her father was a cellarman.  He died when Ellen was 4 years old, and she then lived with her widowed mother at 15 Lecke Street – Jane Scott worked as a charwoman.

Ellen married William Tavener on 6th February 1888 in Cambridge.  William was an agricultural labourer, who then became a cab owner [1911 onwards] .  They lived at 139 Newmarket Road [1891], 220 Newmarket Road [1901] and then 6 Priory Road on the Abbey Estate [1911].

Ellen and William had seven children: William Edward [1889-1921], James Alfred [1891-], Lucy Harriett [1894-], Florence Maud K [1895-1917], Frederick Arthur [1900-], Bert [1902-1965] and Albert [1909-1979]. William Tavener [Senior] died in 1921, and Ellen was left a widow aged 52 years old.  She continued to live at 6 Priory Road, and died in 1953 aged 83 years old.

Florence Maud K Tavener (1895 – 29 April 1917)

Florence was the fourth of  the seven children born to Ellen and William Tavener.  She died aged 21 years old.

William Edward Tavener (1889 – 17 May 1921)

William Edward was the eldest child of Ellen and William Tavener.  He grew up on Newmarket Road and then 6 Priory Road.  On the census of 1911 he was working as a cellarman.  He died aged 31 years old.
