Thomas Humphrey Porter (1837 – 4 January 1924)
Thomas was born in London, the son of cabinet maker Thomas Porter and his wife Sarah (née Newland). He was baptised on 26 March 1837 at St. Clement Danes Church, Westminster and married Mary Ann Johnson on 24 February 1856 at St. Mary’s Church, Lambeth. On the marriage certificate he was documented as a mercentile clerk, he later worked as a clerk of works (1871), architects assistant (1881/1891) and architect/surveyor (1901).
Thomas and Mary had at least eleven children: Thomas Humphrey John (1857-1936), Jane Sarah (1860-1895), Emily (1863-), Edward (1865-), Mary Ann Emily (1869-1941), John William (1871-1953), Sophia Maud (1873-1956), Sarah Rebecca Edith (1875-1921), Charlotte Lucy (1877-1959), Frederick William (1878-1962) and Letitia Matilda (1880-1882). The family lived in Lambeth until at least 1871 before moving to 3 Eden Street, Cambridge c.1872. It is thought that Thomas designed part of the Cambridge Friendly Societies Institute, City Road.
After Thomas was widowed in 1905 he eventually went to live with daughter Sophia and son in law Thomas Pont at Fern House, 1 Prospect Row. He died at home aged 86 years and wsa buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery on 8 January.
Mary Ann Porter (née Johnson) (1837 – August 1905)
Mary was born in Lambeth, the daughter of cook John Johnson. She died at 3 Eden Street age 68 years and was buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery on 9 August 1905.
Letitia Matilda Porter (January 1881 – September 1882)
Letitia was the youngest child of Thomas and Mary Ann. She was baptised at St. Andrew the Less on 13 April 1881 and died aged 21 months old at 3 Eden Street. She was buried in the St. Andrew the Less area of the Cemetery on 10 September 1881.
Thomas and Mary’s granddaughter is also buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery
Constance Maud Mary Pont (1904 – October 1910)
Constance was the daughter of Thomas Claude Pont (1877-1958) and Sophia Maud (née Porter) (1873-1956). Thomas Pont worked as a dry cleaner and Constance was their eldest child. She was baptised at St. Andrew the Less on 6 November 1904. She died at the family home, 2 Portland Place aged 5 and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 6 October 1910.
Thomas and Mary’s daughter Sarah and her family are also buried at Mill Road Cemetery . Their grave has also not yet been found
Sarah Rebecca Edith Boot (née Porter) (1875 – 5 November 1921)
Sarah was born in Cambridge, and baptised at St.Paul’s Church on 25 July 1875. She married Frederick William Boot on 1 August 1898 at St. Andrew the Less Church and they had at leat nine children; Hilda May (1900-1974), Stanley (1902-1965), Sidney Thomas (1904-1971), Reuben Humphrey (1906-1978), Gladys Edith (1908-1991), Frederick (1910-1989), Edward (1912-1913), Ivy Constance (1914-1914) and one other child who died as an infant.
Frederick worked as a mineral water salesman and the family lived at Dillwyn Street (1901) before moving to 6 Elm Street (at least 1911-1915) and then 31 Burleigh Street (at least 1918 onwards . By 1911 Frederick was working as a coachman and in 1921 was working as a printer at the University Press, Trumpington Street. Sarah died at Burleigh Street aged 46 years ‘after a long and painful illness, patiently borne’. She was buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery on 9 November.
Edward Boot (3 October 1912 – May 1913)
Edward was baptised on 4 May 1913 at St. Andrew the Less and died at Elm Street aged 7 months old. He was buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery on 13 May.
Ivy Constance Boot (16 February 1914 – November 1914)
Ivy was baptised on 8 November 1914 at St. Andrew the Less and died at home aged 8 months old. She was buried in the Holy Trinity area of the Cemetery on 12 November.
Frederick William Boot (23 March 1874 – March 1952)
Frederick was the eldest of 10 children born to Thomas (1848-1890) and Frances (née Charles) (1854-1938). His father was a college servant and the family lived at 60 Coronation Street (1881), Russell Street and 10 Argyle Quadrant. Aged 15 (1891) Frederick was working as a railway clerk.
After he was widowed he lived at 35 Paradise Street (1930) and then 89 Searle Street (at least 1933 onwards), where he lived with daughter Gladys and her family. He died at Searle Street aged 77 years old and his funeral was held on 8 March.
