George West (1860 – 8 January 1939)

George was the eldest of six children born to William and Sarah (née Batley) West. He was born in Beccles and baptised in nearby Ellough on 14 July 1861.  William West was a maltster and by 1863 the family had moved to live at 13 Staffordshire Street. George West worked as a clerk for a wine merchant and in 1881/1891 was living with his parents and younger siblings at 2 Parsonage Street.  George later lived with his parents and younger sister Sarah at 49 Eden Street (at least 1901 onwards). By 1933 he had retired and died at 20 Rowan Crescent, Letchworth. His funeral was held on 12 January.

Using information from parish burial records it is known that three other members of the family were buried in the St. Andrew the Less area of Mill Road Cemetery and are thought to have been buried in the same grave

William West (1833 – September 1911)

William was born in Ellough, near Beccles and was the son of Joseph and Mary West. His father was an agricultural labourer.  William married Sarah Batley in 1857 and they had six children: George, Alice Mary (1863-1872), William (1865-), Sarah Ann (1870-1933), Arthur (1873-) and one more child who died as an infant. By 1911 William had retired, he died at home and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 21 September 1911.

Sarah West (née Batley)(1834 – November 1911)

Sarah was born in the village of Shadingfield, four miles south of Beccles and was the eldest daughter of John and Mary. She died at home a few weeks after her husband and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 7 November.

Sarah Ann West (1870-27 March 1933)

Sarah was born in Cambridge and worked as a dressmaker. She never married and died at 49 Eden Street aged 62 years old.
