Ellen Arnold (née Gathercole) (1837 – 22 June 1902)
Ellen was born near Whittington, near Thetford, Norfolk, the eldest daughter of maltster James and Susan (nee Brown) Gathercole. In 1861 Ellen was living in London, and working as a cook for a timber merchant, and then moved to Chesterton Lane, Cambridge where she was in service to Hon. Latimer Neville, 6th Lord Braybrooke and his family. She married widower Charles Arnold (1841-1913) in 1880. Charles was farmer/dairyman and his first wife Cecilia (1841-1878) had died leaving him with seven sons to care for. They lived at 8 Abbey Street and Ellen died aged 64 years old . Her funeral was held on 26 June. Ellen was a few years older than her husband, so maybe this is the reason her age was recorded as 62 years on the grave monument.
Charles Arnold died in March 1913 and was buried at Histon Road Cemetery.
