Elizabeth Violet (Violet) Baker (1900 – 3 March 1903)
Violet died at 72 York Street aged 3 years old. She was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 7 March. It is unclear whose daughter she was, as James and Martha Baker’s daughter[also called] Violet (born 1900) appeared on the 1911 census, living at 72 York Street.
James Baker (28 August 1875 – 7 February 1940)
James was the son of brickmaker James Baker (1854-1880) and Elizabeth (née Howard) (1858-1931). His father died in May 1880 and he grew up with his brother William, and washerwoman mother at 74 York Street. He married Martha Carter in 1892 and they had six children: James (1893-1963), Kate Elizabeth (1895-1969), Nellie Matilda (1897-1963), Violet (1900-), Hilda May (1902-1962) and William Frederick (1906-1971). The family lived at 72 York Street and he worked as a railway coalman for Great Eastern Railway (1901) and then as a general labourer (1911). In 1939 he was working as a builder’s scafolder and he and Martha were living at 62 Young Street.
Martha Baker (née Carter) (31 July 1874 – 11 December 1957)
Martha was the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Carter. He father was a printer and she grew up at 8 Salmon Lane (1881) and 26 Occupation Road (1891). She worked as a domestic servant before marrying James Baker in 1892 and died in Cambridge aged 83 years old.
