This cross stands 3 rows from the west wall towards the north of the parish area of Andrew the Great. The inscriptions of metal letters are in good order but this area is usually left to grow wild and the monument may not be easy to find.

Louisa Jane Bennett (née Barker) (1870 – 29 January 1936)
Louisa was born in Lolworth, Cambridgeshire the fourth of ten children born to John and Emma Barker. Her father was a groom and she grew up in Lolworth (1871) and Castle Street, Saffron Walden (1881). Aged 21, she was working as a domestic nurse for the Thirlwell family in Stoughton, Sussex. Louisa married Edward Bennett in 1897 in Cambridge. Edward was a draper’s managing clerk who worked for George Stace and the couple lived above the shop at 14-15 Petty Cury, although they also had a garden and outbuildings at Barton Road. They later moved to Barton Cottage, 5 Clare Road (at least 1931 onwards).
Emma Barker (1863 – 3 April 1927)
Emma was Louisa’s elder sister and was born in Ashdon, Essex. She was baptised in Ashdon on 24 April 1864 and aged 17 was working as a housemaid for solicitor Charles Wade and his family, who lived on the High Street in Saffron Walden. She later worked as a cook for accountant Francis Gifford, who lived on Hills Road (1891) and Rev. Harry Smith, the vicar of St. Andrew the Great at Harvey Road (1901). In 1911 she was living at 14-15 Petty Cury, where she was employed as a housekeeper – there were eight milliners, assistants and dressmakers living above Stace’s drapers shop, as well as her brother in law and sister. She died at Petty Cury aged 63 years old.
Edward Malcolm Bennett (30 November 1872 – 7 July 1943)
Edward was the son of John and Jane (née Meeks) Bennett. His father was a builder and he grew up at 3 Gwydir Street. Aged 18 he was living at home and working as a pupil teacher, but changed career and worked for George Stace as managing clerk for the majority of his life. He married for a second time in 1938 to Helena May Smith (1903-1971) and in 1939 was living at Clare Road with Helena and his sister Annie Bennett. Edward died at home aged 70 years old.
