Monument
This headstone, located in the parish area of Andrew the Less stands 1 row to the east of the central path facing east and west. The headstone is visible from the path and set in a double plot with kerbstones. The carved inscription on the west face is hard to read because of the lichen and on the east side the base of the stone has eroded, but the decorative carving and carved heads either side remain intact.

Susannah Langhorn Bennett (née Swann) (1799-1880)
Susan was born in Cambridge. Only one child with the surname Swann was baptised in 1899, the entry in the parish register for All Saints reads “Susannah Swann SWANN of [blank] and Susan Swann born in Holy Trinity Parish.” This is not enough evidence to say that she was the illegitimate daughter of Susan – it may be that the Susannah buried here was never baptised.
Susannah married John Bennett on June 25th 1835 at the church of St Andrew the Less. They lived in James Street where they brought up four children: Mary Ann (1836), Edward (1837 – 1857), John Robert (1840 – 1930) and George (1843 – 1857).
By 1861 the family had moved to 102 Fitzroy Street.
John Bennett (1801 – 1887)
John was born in Crowland which is a small town in Lincolnshire, situated between Peterborough and Spalding. He was a bricklayer. It is not known when he came to Cambridge. Two of his sons became well known builders in the Petersfield area of Cambridge. He died suddenly at his lodgings in James St. The subsequent post mortem revealed an enlarged heart and diseased kidneys. The inquest recorded a verdict of death from natural courses.
Edward Bennett (1837-1857)
Edward was the second child of John and Susannah Bennett. He was brought up in James Street. He was 19 when he died. The address in the Burial register was Fitzroy St and the date of his burial June 3rd.
George Bennett (1843 – 1877)
George was the fourth child of John and Susannah Bennett. He was brought up in James Street and at 102 Fitzroy Street. He became a master builder.
George married Elizabeth Burling on 28th July 1869 in the parish of Andrew the Less. This was a double wedding with George’s elder sister Mary Ann who married Alfred Smee. George and Elizabeth lived in Sturton Street and had four children: George Archibald (1870), Rosa Tryphena ( 1872) Walter Raleigh (1876) and Ada Elizabeth (1877-1877).
George Bennett died at the family home in Sturton Street.
Ada Elizabeth Bennett (c 1877 – 1877)
Ada was the third child of George and Elizabeth. She was 7 months old when she died in October, just 3 months after her father.
Elizabeth Bennett (née Burling) (1846 – 1936)
Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Burling. She was born in Landbeach when her father was working as an agricultural labourer. By 1861 the family had moved to Waterbeach where they lived at The Dolphin public house, on the High Street. Thomas was the publican and also farmed 4 acres of land.
After George died Elizabeth moved to 6 Melbourne Place to live with her uncle John. When he died she ran a lodging house at this address.. She remained there until at least 1931 and probably died here at the age of 89.
