Elizabeth Bennett (née Taylor) (c.1808 – 26 February 1879)
Elizabeth was born in Landbeach, the daughter of agricultural labourer Isaac Taylor (1765-1852) and Elizabeth (1770-1845). She married John Bennett on 17 October 1839 at St. Andrew’s Church. John was a college servant and the couple lived at 6 Melbourn Place, together with a house servant (1851) and later their neice (1861/1871). Elizabeth died at home aged 71 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 1 March.
John Bennett (1806 – 30 April 1888)
John was the son of William (1780-1848) and Martha (née Markham) (1769-1821) and was baptised at St. Andrew the Great Church on 14 July 1806. His father worked as a college servant at Christ’s College, which might have been where John worked. John’s brother Markham Bennett worked a coal porter at Christ’s College. After Elizabeth’s death he continued to live at Melbourn Place and his widowed neice Elizabeth acted as his housekeeper. He died at home aged 83 years old.
John’s sisters Elizabeth and Martha are also buried at Mill Road Cemetery
