Monument

This small headstone or footstone set within a border of edging stones is located 3 rows east of the central path and and a few rows north of the south path in the parish area of Holy Trinity. This stone may have been displaced so this may not be the grave of the Blake family.

Inscription Although recorded as G the initial is actually S. The stone was lifted but no inscription is visible on the other side.

S. Blake

This could be Susan or Simon Blake,  Susan their daughter or Susan their son Arthur’s wife

Simon Blake (c1820 – March 21st 1859) was a chimney sweep born in Norwich and died aged 39

Susan Blake née Leach (1818 – 1870) was born in Cambridge. Died aged 52

They married in 1842 and brought up their 5 children in King St. – Elizabeth (1843), Susan (1845), Edward Thomas (1846), Arthur Isaac (1854), and Charlotte Sarah (1859).

After Simon’s death Susan carried on the chimney sweep business
