Frederick Charles (1839 – 31 August 1899)
Frederick was born in Stretham, the son of John and Elizabeth. His father was a farmer, and in 1851 the family were living at Halfway House Farm, Stretham, where John Charles farmed 33 acres and was employing 2 labourers. Frederick worked as a linen draper (at least 1861-1871) and married Ann Barnett in 1872. By 1881 Frederick was working as a butcher. He and Ann moved to live at 71 Great Eastern Street (1891) and then 155 Mill Road where he died aged 59 years old.
Ann Elizabeth Charles (née Wake) (1850 – 17 October 1921)
Ann was born in Fordham, the illigitimate daughter of Sophia Wake (1828-1876). Sophia married butcher William Barnett in 1854, and Ann took the surname Barnett. Aged 21 she was living at home and was documented as being unemployed, before marrying Frederick Charles the following year. After his death she ran a Lodging House at 155 Mill Road.
