Inscription
In Loving Memory of LILIAN dearly loved and only child of CHARLES & ELIZABETH DANT
Who fell asleep March 29th 1893 aged 3 years & 8 months
‘On that Happy Easter morning all the graves their dead restore,
father, sister, child and mother meet once more.’
Lilian Dant (1890 – 29 March 1893)
Lilian was the eldest child of Charles and Elizabeth Ann (née Noble) Dant. Charles (1861-1915) was a baker/confectioner and Lilian was born at 65 King Street, where she also died aged 3 years old.
Charles and Elizabeth had at least 6 children: Lilian, Charles William (1894-1951), Harold George (1895-1895), Victoria May (1897-1983), Sidney Horace (1899-1918) and one other child who died as an infant.
It is believed that this grave also contains the bodies of the two other Dant children who died when they were young. One of whom was Harold George Dant, who died in September 1895 aged 27 days old. Harold was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 26 September 1895.
The family later moved to 20 Victoria Road where Charles died suddenly in 1915 at the age of 53. There was an inquest that showed his death to be from heart and lung problems probably made worse because he was having to work so many extra hours during the war. He was buried at St Andrew’s Church Chesterton.
Sidney Horace Dant was killed in the 1st World War and was buried at Soissons, Picardie in France.
