Alfred Henry Doughty (c.1831 – 8 January 1891)

Alfred was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Doughty and grew up on Chesterton High Street, where his father was a chairmaker (1841).  By 1851 the Doughty family were living at 4 Melbourn Place, and Joseph was working as a batmaker, Alfred as a compositor/printer.  He married Elizabeth King on 17 December 1860 at Christ Church and they had at least five children: Maria (known as May)  (1863-), Helen (1868-1956), Harry King (1869-1947), Percy (1873-1934) and Harold (1874-). Alfred later worked as a printer and newsagent, and the family lived at 130 Fitzroy Street (at least 1861-1881), 24 Melbourne Place (1886-1888) and 6 Prospect Row (1889 onwards).  He died at  home aged 60 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 13 January.

Elizabeth Doughty  (née King) (1832 – 30 June 1920)

Elizabeth was born in Cambridge and baptised on 19 February 1832 at St. Giles’ Church. She was the daughter of brewer Charles King and his wife Hannah, and grew up in Ely before marrying Alfred when she was 28 years old. After she was widowed she lived in Chesterton (1901) and then at 44 Mawson Road (at least 1911 onwards) with daughter Helen. Elizabeth died at Mawson Road aged 88 years old.

Percy Doughty (1873 – 29 September 1934)

Percy worked as an assistant clerk and in 1901 was living with his mother and siblings in Chesterton. He moved to London where he worked as an Insurance Agent and  married Hannah Louise Thorpe (1865-1922) at St. Paul’s Church, Hammersmith on 28 October 1909 . In 1911 the couple were living  at 224 Southward Bridge Road, and Percy was working as a political registration agent. He was widowed in 1922 and returned to Cambridge, where he lived at 44 Mawson Road with his sister Helen (at least 1924 onwards). He died in Cambridge aged 61 years old.
