William Arthur Ellis (31 July 1890 – 17 July 1927)

William was the son of Charles and Susan (née Scarr) and grew up at 12 Clarendon Street  (1891), 32 City Road (1901) and 29 Mill Road (1911).  Charles Ellis worked in a china shop and aged 20 William was working for a building company as a carpenter and joiner.  William served in the R.A.F. in the 1st World War and enlisted in April 1916. He married Ellen (known as Nellie) Pilgrim (1889-1968) in 1917 and they had at least one son: Donald W (1928-). They lived at 31 Grafton Street and he died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 36 years old. His funeral took place on 20 July 1927.

William’s parents in law Owen and Maria Pilgrim are also buried at Mill Road Cemetery.
