Emily Morley (née Talbot) (1851 – 15 May 1892)
Emily was the eldest daughter of Jonathan (1817-1882) and Eliza (née Martin) (1825-1872) and was born in Great Thurlow, a village to the North of Haverhill. Her father was an agricultural labourer, and in 1861 the family were living in Babraham. Emily worked as a servant to Miss Lydia Hardy, the schoolmistress of Whittlesford School (1871) before marrying James Morley in 1876. The couple had at least five children: Jane Elizabeth (1877-1950), James Talbot (1879-1935), Harry (1882-1943), Albert Martin (1886-1961) and David Ambrose (1888-1923). They lived at 3 Paradise Street and James worked as a brewer’s drayman (1871) and later as a railway porter (1891). Emily died at home and her funeral was held on 19 May.
James Morley (1852 – 24 October 1921)
James was born in Sawston, but grew up in Little Abington. He was the son of Joseph and Jane Morley and his father was an agricultural labourer. Aged 19 James was also working as a farm labourer. After he was widowed he lived at Sturton Street, and married widow Susannah Mitchell (1850-1912) in the Spring of 1901. The marriage was not harmonious and by January 1902 James had placed newspaper adverts announcing: ‘I, James Morley of 1, Sturton Street, Cambridge, hereby inform shopkeepers etc, that I will not be answerable for any debts incurred by my wife, Susannah Morley, after this date’. By 1911 Susannah had moved out of the marital home and was working as a housekeeper for widower Alfred Shadbolt at 8a Burleigh Place. James died at home aged 69 years old.
Jane Elizabeth Fuller (née Morley) (21 September 1877 – 10 June 1950)
Jane was the only daughter of James and Emily and married William Reynolds Fuller (1877-1951) in 1904. William was a printer’s warehouseman and the couple had at one son: William David (1911-1990) . They lived at 7 Milford Street throughout their married life.
