“At Rest”
Jane Funge (née Weston) (c.1822 – 31 July 1877)
Jane was born in Harston and was the daughter of Michael and Mahalah (née Whitby) Weston. She was baptised in Harston on 22 September 1822. Her father was found guilty of larceny in January 1823 and was sentenced to 7 years transportation (most probably to Australia or the colonies) so it is believed that Jane grew up with Mahalah in Harston.
She married Thomas Funge in St Andrew the Great church on April 10th 1849.
Thomas and Jane raised three children at Eden Street: Thomas John (1849-1923), John James (1851-1918) and Jane (1856-1945). Jane died aged 54 years old at 55 Eden Street and was buried on 3 August.
Thomas Funge (1823 – 1905)
Thomas was born in Cowley, near Uxbridge. He was the son of baker John James Funge and his wife Charlotte and was the brother of John James Funge. Both brothers were bakers in Cambridge – John ran a shop from 60 Bridge Street, and Thomas from 55 Eden Street.
Thomas continued to live and work at Eden Street after Jane’s death, helped by his spinster daughter Jane. He died at home on 5 February 1905 aged 82 years old.
