John Holliday (1828 – 10 April 1893)
John was the son of Isaac Holliday (1804-1848) and Mary (née Hawes) (1803-1887). He was baptised at St. Andrew the Great Church on 11 March 1828. His father was a college ‘shoeblack’ and John also worked as a college servant. He lodged at King Street (1851) and married Susan Crisp on 8 January 1853. The couple had at least five children: Susan Elizabeth (1853-1927), Alice Mary (1856-1908), Isaac (1859-1943), Alfred John (1861-1941) and Edward James (1864-1949) and lived at 26 Orchard Street (1861 – at least 1871) before moving to 5 John Street (at least 1881 onwards). In 1881 John was documented as working as a college waiter, and Susan was a college bedmaker. He died at home and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 15 April 1893.
Susan Holliday (née Crisp) (1824 – 24 March 1913)
Susan was born in Great Chesterford and baptised there on 11 July 1824. She was the daughter of James and Elizabeth, and in 1841 was living with her parents in Epping, where James was a domestic servant. By 1851 she had moved to Cambridge, and worked as a servant for Joseph and Susannah Watton at Downing Street. After she was widowed, she continued to live at John Street with her son Isaac and died at home aged 88 years old. Her funeral was held on 28 March.
