George Hyde (1842 – 5 January 1893)

George was born in Cambridge, but little is known of his early life. He married Rosa Cook in Tonbridge, Kent in 1870 and they had six children: Charles (1870-), Rosa Annie (1872-1969), Ellen (1875-1972), Alfred (1877-), Charlotte (1880-) and Sidney George (1888-1960). George worked as a wine porter(1871) and then as a grocer (at least 1881 onwards). The family lived at  40 Mill Road  (1881) and then Hartest Terrace, Mill Road where he was a grocer/sub postmaster. He died at home aged 50 years old.

Rosa Annie Hyde (née Cook)  (1843 – 25 January 1930)

Rosa was the daughter of shoemaker Joseph and Charlotte and was born and raised in Ipswich. Age 18 she was working as a housemaid to  linen draper George Light at Tavern Street, Ipswich. After George’s death she lived with daughter Charlotte at 77 Histon Road (1901) and then by herself at 30 James Street (1911).  Rosa died in Mitcham, Surrey where it is thought she was living with/visiting one of her daughters. She was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 30 January 1930.
